Scripture Post #1,847: *WEAR AWAY*
Exodus 18:
13 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
17 And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
18 Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
Sometimes you must realize when you are in need of help.
Moses' father-in-law, Jethro, the Priest of Midian, payed Moses a visit. They caught up on all the many wonderful things GOD had done for each of them. Jethro rejoiced when Moses told him of how GOD saved his people from Egyptian-captivity! Then it was time for Moses to give sound counsel to the Israelites. And Jethro noticed how Moses, alone, counseled every single matter the Israelites had. Jethro told Moses that this was no good! That Moses would indeed *WEAR AWAY*. The people also! Jethro suggested that Moses only handle major matters, and for him to employ able men, righteous men, to hand trivial matters and all lesser issues. Now remember, Jethro was a Priest. He had experience dealing with bringing sound counsel to people; he knew what he was talking about. This plan was executed and it saved the Israelites from much stress and wasted time!
Ex. 18:21: "Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:"
V. 22: "And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee."
