Scripture Post #728: *CALLED UNTO HOLINESS*

1st Thessalonians 4:7: "For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness."

Disclaimer: The image used for this Scripture Post, in its original form, was from an image search engine. It is not an image of my own.

This Scripture was from Apostle Paul, Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the Church of the Thessalonians (1st Thess. 1:1).

The word "for" used in the beginning of this Scripture only makes sense with the context included. It's sort of like beginning a sentence with the word "because". Words such as "for" or "because" refer to something mentioned prior. So in this case, fornication, lust and concupiscence were mentioned prior to the word "for". Fornication, lust and concupiscence are all unclean things. Which is why the word "unclean" is mentioned in this Scripture. Sins aren't clean—they're unclean. And we're *CALLED UNTO HOLINESS*, not uncleanness.

Context:
1st Thess. 4:3: "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:"
V. 4: "That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;"
V. 5: "Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:"
V. 6: "That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified."
V. 7: "For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness."

We are called to a greater way of being than how we were prior to our Christian-conversion. There are no holy sinners. We were dead to holiness prior to knowing CHRIST. But now that we know HIM, we can walk in our calling: holiness.
