Scripture Post #500: *WALKING WORTHY*

Ephesians 4:
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

This Scripture was from Apostle Paul, to the Saints which were at Ephesus (Eph. 1:1).

• "…Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called…"
Vocation—meaning your call to the Christian life. Walking worthy—when one walks worthy of a position, they take that position seriously. They fulfill the tasks required of that position. Walking worthy does not mean you take your position with pride, as if you deserve it. It's actually just the opposite, as explained in the following verse. Verse 2: "With all lowliness and meekness…" Walking worthy of our vocation in the Christian life is to walk with all lowliness and meekness.

• "…With longsuffering, forbearing one another in love…"
We are to be patient with one another other as Believers. At times, it can be so easy to be annoyed with others. But forbearing one another in love takes the focus off of us, and places it on others. Being annoyed or bothered by others is selfish because the focus is on you and how you don't like being annoyed or bothered. You're not thinking of others when you're annoyed by others; you're thinking of yourself. And if you're thinking of yourself, then there's no room for love, is there?

• "Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
This verse flows together with the one right before it. In verse 2 it states to forbear one another in love. And then verse 3 is what's quoted above—to endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. To keep unity & peace, is to forbear in love. Which is why these 2 verses go together (Eph. 4:2-3).
