Scripture Post #233: *JESUS' RICH DISCIPLE*

Matthew 27:57: "When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:"

Some people believe that Christians aren't supposed to be rich. I don't believe that. I believe Christians aren't supposed to be greedy. If this disciple (and JESUS had more than 12 by the way) wasn't rich, who knows where JESUS' Body would've ended up—possibly in the hands of the wicked Pharisees, or the worldly Romans. Because this rich disciple named Joseph, took care of the Body of JESUS and laid Him in his own Tomb! (Scripture reference below.)  I believe JESUS used this man being rich for HIS Glory! Remember, it's not money that's the root of all evil, but the love of it. (1st Tim. 6:10: "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.")

For better context (this is after JESUS died on the Cross):
V. 57: "When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:"
V. 58: "He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered."
V. 59: "And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,"
V. 60: "And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed."

Verse 60 states that the Tomb that JESUS' Body was laid in was this rich disciple Joseph's. Interesting how this disciple had the same name as JESUS' earthly father… (Matt. 1:16: "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.")
