Scripture Post #2,211: *WON’T HE DO IT?*

Numbers 23:19:

“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”

Context:

Numbers 23:20: “Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.”

You gotta give it to Balak for his tenacity. He didn’t let Balaam’s multiple unfavorable prophesies hinder his persistence to get the prophecy he eagerly longed for. The prophecy he never got. Balak was the king of the Moabite people. And Balaam was a gifted prophet whose words came to pass, impressively. Balak wanted Balaam to speak and prophesy in favor of the Moabites and in disfavor of the Israelites. But time after time of Balak’s constant entreaties, Balaam kept coming back with a good report for GOD’s people. Finally, in Numbers 23:19-20, Balaam says, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.”

GOD isn’t a mere human. He’s GOD. And when He says things, they’re permanently irreversible.
