Scripture Post #2,119: *LOATHSOME*

Numbers 11:

18 And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.

19 Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;

20 But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

The Israelites were very ungrateful to GOD. They complained about the manna (bread from Heaven) GOD provided for them. They wished they were back in the bondage of Egypt, because at least they got to eat fish and variety, there. But what GOD said He’d do was amazing! He basically showed the Israelites that it wasn’t their circumstance that needed improvement, it was their attitude about it! GOD basically said, “You want meat? Sick of the bread, are you? I’ll give you meat. And not just for a few days, either. Not a week. But for an entire month, I’ll provide you with the meat that you want. And you’ll eat it until you get sick of it; just as you did with my manna.”

Whether it was manna or fish, the Israelites were prone to complaining. Some people are truly never satisfied. Not in relationships: Where the husband marries and divorces repeatedly because he’s never content with the woman he married. Or feelings of pleasure: the High is never high enough. Your drug intake has snowballed into an absurdly disgusting amount. Or life in general: The video game isn’t fun enough. The TV show isn’t interesting enough. The roller coaster isn’t fast enough. The dessert isn’t sweet enough. The car isn’t fancy enough. The house isn’t big enough. The money isn’t the amount you want. And whether you had $2,000, or $2,000,000, you’d still be bankrupt. Do you know why? It’s your attitude. You’d (the complaining, discontent folks) spend that money so fast because *nothing* you could *ever* purchase would *fill* the dissatisfied, discontent, unappreciative, ever-seeking *void* located in the heart of your *attitude*.
