Scripture Post #782: *NO WORK = NO FOOD*

2nd Thessalonians 3:10: "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat."

This Scripture was from Apostle Paul, Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the Church of the Thessalonians (2nd Thess. 1:1).

Context:
2nd Thess. 3:7: "For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;"
V. 8: "Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:"
V. 9: "Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us."
V. 10: "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat."
V. 11: "For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies."
V. 12: "Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread."

In the context above, we can see how the Apostle Paul lead the Church of the Thessalonians by example. Paul stated that he wouldn't eat for nought (nothing), but wrought (worked) with labour and travail night and day. Meaning: Paul and those with him weren't going to just eat without having first worked. It's plain wrong. It shouldn't feel comfortable to you to just sit back, chill, do nothing, and expect to eat, expect to benefit from not working. It's common-courtesy to want to help out if you're offered something free. It's like the friend who offers to do dishes over the other friends house after he's/she's eaten. Because you just don't feel right receiving something you haven't first worked for, nor should you. The Bible states not to be slothful (lazy) in business. (Rom. 12:10: "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;"
V. 11: "Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;") It's flat out unGODly to desire to not work. GOD HIMSELF worked 6 days and rested on the Sabbath. What if GOD didn't want to work anymore? What if HE said, "Well, Children, I'm done working. I'm no longer answering your prayers or working out your problems for you—you're on your own"? GOD is not a slacker and neither should HIS Children be!
