JESUS is speaking here.
Treating others the way one would like to be treated is basically what this Scripture means. It's a good way to live life. I see why they call it the *GOLDEN RULE*, I really do. Living life this way prevents so many horrible atrocities. Think about it. How can one kill another with the Golden Rule in place? How can one steal or cheat another with the Golden Rule in place? And most importantly, how can one do wrong against GOD with the Golden Rule in place? We should treat others the way we'd like to be treated, but we should treat GOD right, first. GOD treats us really good, doesn't HE? So let's treat HIM really good also. Love others, but love GOD first. To apply the Golden Rule is to treat others the way you'd like to be treated—not how others are treating you. This means that no matter how good bad or indifferent others are treating us, we're still to do right by them. We're still to treat them the way we'd like to be treated. But with GOD it's different. GOD already treats us right. GOD treats us far better than we could ever treat HIM. We can't match HIS goodness towards us. But we can still treat HIM well and do right by HIM because HE 1st treated us well, more than well even, HE treated us spectacularly!
