Scripture Post #204: *DIVORCEMENT*
1st Corinthians 7:
10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
Context: This Scripture was from Apostle Paul and Sosthenes, unto the Church at Corinth (1st Cor. 1:1-2).
JESUS pretty much says the same thing that was stated in 1st Cor. 7:10-11 here in Matt.:
Matt. 19:8: He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
[verse 9:] And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Context: JESUS was talking to the Pharisees here (Matt 19:1-9).
JESUS said "…except it be for fornication…" because: back in those days, when a couple would wed, and the man, after having sex with his wife, found out that she wasn't a virgin (that she had prior *fornicated*), would have grounds for rightful divorcement, and could remarry.
After JESUS said what HE said in Matt. 19:8-9, HE had a conversation with HIS disciples:
Matt. 19:10: His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.
[verse 11:] But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.
[verse 12:] For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
All cannot receive this. But as JESUS said: "He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."
