Scripture Post #2,200: *UNTIL I WENT INTO THE SANCTUARY*
Psalms 73:
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
When the writer of this psalm states: “…My feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.” (Psalms 73:2.) He means: My feet couldn’t hold me; I was trippin’ and completely undone. Why? Over "…the prosperity of the wicked.” (Psalms 73:3.) They’re wicked, corrupt and ungodly, yet prosper and increase in riches, Scripture states. The writer of this psalm exclaims in verse 16: “…It was too painful for me…” But the following verse reads as follows: “*UNTIL I WENT INTO THE SANCTUARY* of God…” You put verses 16 and 17 together and you get: “…It was too painful for me; Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood…” Understanding didn’t come until the Sanctuary came into place. Until the Sanctuary had been entered! Psalms 73 is about a struggle to come to grips with why and how evil folks prosper. But once this Psalm’s writer entered GOD’s Sanctuary, things began to unravel. The realization that GOD is in control and that evil is repaid with evil, finally sunk in! GOD casts wickedness down into destruction (Psalms 73:18)!
“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
~Romans 12:19
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
~Galatians 6:7
