Scripture Post #2,173: *14,700 MORE DEAD*
Numbers 16:49:
“Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.”
Numbers 16 is a doozy!! There’s a lot going on in this particular chapter in the book of Numbers. GOD was very, very displeased with certain rebellious people’s attitudes when it came to *presumptuousness*! In verse 3 of this chapter, hundreds of prominent men, including Korah, Dathan and Abiram took the position of holiness without the LORD’s consecration. They inserted themselves to be like Moses: having honor, power and authority. They made themselves as leaders and Moses’s equals. They did this presumptuously, without the blessing or permission of anyone. Moses himself never even did this!
Moses didn’t even want the position of Deliverer. He was insecure about the way he spake. He wanted his big brother, Aaron, the Priest, to talk for him. If you read the book of Exodus, you’ll see how the LORD had to go back and forth with Moses, pulling him into the position of GOD’s trusted servant. The Bible states that Moses was the meekest amongst all people. Perhaps the meekest man aside from CHRIST who ever lived. “(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)” ~Numbers 12:3. GOD chooses the meek, not the proud! Come to GOD, correctly: in a most humble posture, to receive of Him. “A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.” ~Proverbs 29:23.
Presumptuousness (pride) is what got an estimated 15,000 of GOD’s own people put to death in Numbers chapter 16. Around 50 or so went straight to Hell, bodies, clothes, tents and all, who were in the company of Korah when the earth opened and gobbled them all up. 250 princes who were men of renown, famous Israelites, were consumed with lethal flames for offering sacrifices to GOD, presumptuously. And then, finally, an additional 14,700 Israelites were ended for murmuring against Moses and the LORD’s righteous doings. Which brings the body-count for Numbers chapter 16 to an astonishing estimated 15,000.
