Scripture Post #2,139: *ENRAGED OVER TRUTH*

Numbers 14:

8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.

10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

Context:

Num. 14:5: “Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.”

Verse 6: “And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:”

V. 7: “And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.”

V. 8: “If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.”

V. 9: “Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.”

V. 10: “But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.”

GOD had 12 men of Israel to go scout out the land He’d promised His people. The 12 men reported back that there were scary enemies in the land — giants even. But it was also reported that the land was exceedingly good — a land flowing with milk and honey. The Israelites became extremely troubled by the news of the inhabitants of the land GOD had promised to give them. They thought they were goners for sure. Moses and Aaron fell to their faces and Joshua and Caleb tore their clothes in reaction to the Israelite people’s fear and faithlessness. Joshua and Caleb told the Israelites the truth: that if they’d just be a delight unto the LORD and not act out in rebellion, that GOD would indubitably bless them with the Promised Land. This infuriated the Israelites to the point of attempting to murder Joshua and Caleb by stoning them to death. The children of Israel were so consumed by terror, that they made it become their circumstance. They weren’t in a circumstance of terror over giants. They were in a circumstance of choice and decision. And out of *that* circumstance, they *decided* to *choose* fear over faith in GOD’s ability. And in this Godless state of fear, it gave way to anger and murder. They didn’t want to hear the LORD’s truth. They’d *convinced* themselves that the circumstance they’d made for themselves was the one and only reality there was. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. *ENRAGED OVER TRUTH*.
