Scripture Post #2,083: *LEVITES EXEMPT FROM WAR*
Numbers 1:47:
“But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.”
The Israelites were a nation composed of 12 tribes. The tribe of Levi was the only tribe exempt from war. The Levites were reserved for more sacred matters. The tribe of Levi was chosen by GOD for all priestly and holy duties. They alone were responsible for the proper upkeep of GOD’s holy Tabernacle.
Context:

V. 51: “And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.”
