Scripture Post #2,023: *OBSERVING TIMES*
Leviticus 19:26:
“Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.”
Leviticus 19:26 Expanded Bible (EXB):
“‘You must not eat anything with the blood in it [3:17].
“‘You must not try to tell the future by signs or ·black magic [divination; Deut. 18:9–12].
Deu. 18:9: “When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.”
Verse 10: “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,”
V. 11: “Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.”
V. 12: “For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.”
V. 13: “Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.”
V. 14: “For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.”
The main point GOD was making in Leviticus chapter 19 was for His people to be holy, like Himself, and not like the world they lived in.
(“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” ~1st John 2:15.)
To observe times is likened to following horoscopes. It’s looking for an outside supernatural or spiritual guide. (Horoscopes are spiritual. They play on the inner parts of a man.) A guide besides GOD, when GOD should be the only spiritual source we use for guidance.
Enchantments are spiritually wicked as well. It’s magic — spiritual power not from GOD. The demonic realm is responsible for these unGodly guides people turn to for knowledge in realms beyond what’s natural and/or common.
