Scripture Post #1,637: *ER*

Genesis 38:7:

"And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him."

Israel/Jacob had 12 sons known as the 12 tribes of Israel. Judah was one of Jacob's children. He left his father's house and all his brothers and started a family of his own. His firstborn son, *ER*, was wicked and the LORD killed him. In the Old Testament, prior to CHRIST's death and  reconciliation for the world, GOD killed wicked people as He pleased, without hesitation. He's GOD. He's sovereign. There are many accounts in the Old Testament Bible where GOD displayed harsh action. This isn't because GOD's cruel. It is because He's holy. And He has no tolerance for wickedness whatsoever. When His dear son, JESUS CHRIST, died on that cross, He drank the wrath of a holy, righteous GOD. This doesn't mean we sin as we please because JESUS has taken care of our sin and GOD won't just pop-off and kill us when we upset Him anymore. This means our wickedness that angers the LORD has been satisfied by the rectification that CHRIST's death has brought unto us! This enables us to walk fully free from sin and fully acceptable for all the possibilities that rest in GOD for our lives!

CHRIST requested not to drink of GOD's wrath, by dying for our sins, but died anyway because He loves us and was committed to obedience and submission unto GOD the Father:

"Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done."

~Luke 22:42
