Scripture Post #1,633: *JOSEPH SOLD*
Genesis 37:28:
"Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt."
Joseph was the 2nd to last born child of all of Israel's children. Joseph's older brothers hated him because their father favored him over them. They were livid! So they plotted to kill him. Then, Reuben, the oldest of all the brothers, told his younger brothers not to kill Joseph. But to toss him into a pit, instead. So they took Joseph (stripping him out of his coat of many colors, a gift that his father had only given to him, the favorite out of the bunch) and tossed him in a pit. Reuben's plan was to later return to the pit and free his younger brother. Reuben shouldn't have walked off; because Judah, another one of the 12 brothers, came up with a plan to sell Joseph without Reuben's awareness. The other brothers agreed that Judah's plan was a satisfactory. So they sold their brother, Joseph, into slavery. And just like that, Joseph was off to Egypt. Away from his family and everything he knew. (Gen. 37.)
