Scripture Post #1,575: *REUBEN*

 

Genesis 29:32:

"And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me."

*REUBEN* was the 1st-born son of Jacob. Jacob had 2 wives (these wives were sisters): Leah and Rachel. Jacob loved Rachel more than Leah. Leah was older than Rachel. Leah was the mother of Reuben. 

When Leah gave birth to Reuben, she said, "Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me." She thought bringing forth children to the husband she and her sister shared would cause him to love her more. This was a difficult position to be in.
