Scripture Post #1,555: *2 WIVES*

Genesis 26:

34 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:

35 Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.

Esau, Isaac's firstborn son, was forty when he married. Isaac was forty when he married Esau's mother, Rebekah. Like father like son. ("And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian." ~Genesis 25:20.) Esau's parents were displeased when he got married. But why? Because he married 2 women? Because he married Hittite women (married outside his race, culture and religion)? Both of these reason, perhaps? The Scripture doesn't specify. What Esau did was very unusual. This is for sure.

Esau is the first man mentioned in Scripture who took *2 WIVES* for himself.
