Scripture Post #1,316: *DESTROYED BY MISUNDERSTANDING*

2nd Peter 3:16:

"As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction."

The Apostle Peter describes the Apostle Paul's Epistles in this Scripture. He describes some of the things Paul wrote as being hard to understand. Parts of the Bible can be very hard to understand. When we're unlearned where Scripture is concerned we become prone to wrest or *twist* Scripture into meaning what it actually doesn't mean. This leads to our destruction. Also, when we are unstable (meaning: not properly aligned with GOD, for the sake of fear, doubt, depression, confusion, sin or any other reason that would displace us from where we're supposed to be in CHRIST) while receiving Scripture, the same result awaits us: destruction. Taking action based on Scripture is great, when Scripture isn't misconstrued. But if we don't know the true meaning of a Passage of Scripture, or we're displaced and unstable to properly receive Scripture, we will surely destroy ourselves. This is why we must have understanding:

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever." ~Psalms 111:10.

I fear GOD too much to disobey Him. I abide by His commandments and have "good understanding" because of it.

We must also be settled and stable in GOD:

"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." ~James 1:8.

Grasping GOD's Word while unstable is beyond dangerous. I will be sure I am aligned in CHRIST so that I am enabled to receive GOD's truth properly.
