1st John 4:1:

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

The thing about deception is, it seems real—it seems true. There are prophets who are convincing many Christians that they're the real deal. A great way to keep from falling for tricks that seem so believable is to prove things with absolutely no bias and absolutely no emotion. "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." ~1st Thessalonians 5:21.

If no good fruit is being produced, then it can't be of GOD:

Matt. 7:15: "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves."

V. 16: "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"

V. 17: "Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit."

V. 18: "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit."

V. 19: "Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire."

V. 20: "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
