Scripture Post #1,254: *CIRCUMSTANCE VS. CONSEQUENCE*

1st Peter 4:

15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

It must be understood from a Christian perspective, the difference between circumstance and consequence. There are victims of circumstance who are blessed of GOD. Victims of circumstance are likened to Job from the Old Testament Bible. Job's children died, he lost his fortune, he got painfully ill and his wife turned on him. These things occurred, not out of consequence; Job did nothing wrong for these terrible things to come his way. These things were circumstantial. Job was put under these circumstances because he stood by GOD. And GOD stood by him, and blessed him extravagantly after all was said and done. Victims of consequence are ones who go to jail for killing and stealing. (Hence: …Let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief…") When we do go through those times of suffering, let it be because we're as Job, not because we got what was coming to us.
