The wisdom of GOD from the HOLY SPIRIT was *IRRESISTIBLE* to the Disciple Stephen's accusers/persecutors. These were men of the Synagogue who "…were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he [Stephen] spake." In the following verses, it's stated that these men, out of their inability to find fault with Stephen, framed him, knowing the irresistible truth of the words spoken by him. For they were bias and bound by their laws, doctrines and traditions.
When you're trying to set somebody up, and you can't resist the truth of GOD's SPIRIT and wisdom, all that remains is treachery.
