This Scripture was from Apostle Paul, unto Titus, his son in the common faith (Titus 1:1-4).
A gainsayer is someone opposed to what you stand for. As a Believer, a gainsayer would be an unbeliever. The Apostle Paul states that we *CONVINCE THE GAINSAYERS* through and by the holy living of our Christian leaders—our Elders and Bishops. The context below explains that through the Bishop's blameless, faithful lifestyle, "…that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers." We don't need more worldliness to convert worldly people over for the LORD. We don't need to invite superstar sinners to our Christian conferences to win people to the LORD. No! We need our leaders to set a holy example of how to live, and for them to convince the gainsayers to become Christians through sound doctrine! This is what the Apostle Paul stated to Titus. This is what works.
Context:
Titus 1:6: "If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly."
V. 7: "For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;"
V. 8: "But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;"
V. 9: "Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers."
