Scripture Post #745: *YOUR FATHER THE DEVIL*

John 8:44: "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."

John 8:31 begins the conversation between JESUS and certain Jews that believed on HIM (John 8:31: "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him…"). 

These Jews are believed to be the very Pharisees that had CHRIST murdered (crucified), seeing how JESUS stated that they sought to kill HIM in verse 40 ("But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God…"). 

These Jews were hypocrites. They posed as holy but were *actually* evil and devilish! JESUS describes them as follows:

Matt. 23:27: "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness."

V. 28: "Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity."

That it's-all-good-all-the-time, never-say-offensive-things-to anybody-Jesus doesn't exist—in case you were wondering. JESUS spoke the truth concerning the Pharisees—no matter how upsetting HIS words were. 

Our goal shouldn't be to be abrasive and to make as little friends as possible. Our goal should be to say and do as GOD commands, no matter how it makes others feel. Because how *GOD* feels about our actions, should far outweigh how *anyone* else feels. 

John 8:38: "I speak that which I have seen with my Father…"
