Scripture Post #623: *SON OF GOD*

John 1:

32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

Note: This image is to give the idea of how CHRIST's baptism was, and how the HOLY SPIRIT descended from Heaven upon HIM like a dove. It is not to give the idea of how CHRIST looked. Research suggests that Jews had short hair unless they were Nazarites. And JESUS of Nazareth, not a Nazarite, was a Jew. (1st Cor. 11:14: "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?"

V. 15: "But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.")

The revelation at beholding CHRIST that HE was the *SON OF GOD* came to John The Baptist via the SPIRIT. John was led by the SPIRIT of GOD. The SPIRIT of GOD sent John to baptize in the wilderness in the first place. And that same SPIRIT revealed to John WHO the SON of GOD was (verse 33)! It's so important to be led by the SPIRIT.

Rom. 8:13: "For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live."

V. 14: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." 

Echo: "…Led by the Spirit of God…"
