Scripture Post #619: *STRAIGHTEN UP*

John 1:23: "He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias."

Context:

John 1:19: "And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?"

V. 20: "And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ."

V. 21: "And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No."

V. 22: "Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?"

V. 23: "He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias."

Esaias = Isaiah. 

John The Baptist Fulfilled Isaiah's Prophecy:

Is. 40:1: "Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God."

V. 2: "Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins."

V. 3: "The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God."

V. 4: "Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:"

V. 5: "And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it."

We must *STRAIGHTEN UP* if we truly are GOD's people. GOD is holy.

(1st Sam. 2:2: "There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.")

And HIS ways are holy. 

(Ps. 145:17: "The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.")

Therefore in being HIS people we must "…Make straight the way of the Lord…" (John 1:23.)

Lev. 11:44: "For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy…"

1st Peter 1:15: "But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

V. 16: "Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."

May every crooked way be made straight in your life, in JESUS' name!
