Scripture Post #610: *COUNTED AS DUNG*

Philippians 3:
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

This Scripture was from Apostle Paul and Timotheus, to the Saints of Philippi, with the Bishops and Deacons (Phil. 1:1).

Context:
Phil. 3:5: "Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;"
V. 6: "Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless."
V. 7: "But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ."
V. 8: "Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,"

How Important Are "Things" Really?
Matt. 16:26: "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"

The Apostle Paul explained how he was a Hebrew, of the Tribe of Benjamin. He was a Pharisee. He was great! But he counted all of who he was, all his accomplishments, "…all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus…" He understood that coming to the knowledge of CHRIST—knowing CHRIST—was, and is, the most important thing ever!! In comparison to the greatest accomplishment ever, JESUS CHRIST makes it look like *dung*!!!

We deny ourselves and follow after CHRIST, and the ways of CHRIST. All of who we were must die. All of what we desire must be exchanged for what HE desires. It's not about us. It's all about HIM. So let pride/conceit die. Let ego die. Let (selfish) ambition die. Let self/flesh die. Let arrogance die. Let self-righteousness die. Let the need to always be right die. Let puffed-up/self-inflated ways die. Let condescending ways die. *Clear out* and make room for CHRIST!

Luke 9:23: "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."

John 3:30: "He must increase, but I must decrease."

Gal. 5:24: "And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts."

Gal. 2:20: "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

Rom. 6:6: "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."

Col. 3:3: "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God."

Col. 3:9: "Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;"
V. 10: "And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:"

2nd Cor. 5:17: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
