Scripture Post #603: *I GET IT NOW!*

Luke 24:
44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

JESUS CHRIST told HIS Disciples that HE would be crucified and rise again the 3rd day, beforehand.

(Matt. 20:18: "Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,"
V. 19: "And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.")

But they didn't get it when it actually happened! It didn't register. It didn't click. They thought their LORD was gone and dead forever! Remember "Doubting Thomas"? They told Thomas that JESUS was back from the dead, and he still didn't believe. CHRIST's Disciples were so sure that JESUS was never to return, that when HE actually did return, they thought HE was a ghost/spirit!

(Luke 24:36: "And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you."
V. 37: "But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit."
V. 38: "And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?"
V. 39: "Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have."
V. 40: "And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.")

So JESUS told HIS followers ahead of time that HE'd be crucified and rise again the 3rd day. When it actually happened they didn't get it—they didn't get the prophetic connection—it didn't register to them. But then, JESUS reminded them that HE'd already told them of all these occurrences, beforehand.

(Luke 24:44: "And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me."
V. 45: "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,")

It was like JESUS was saying, "Don't you see? What happened to me was already revealed to you—by me—because I told you! Now let's open the Scriptures (Old Testament) to further *confirm* my death, burial and resurrection, so that those of you who still don't get it, can finally get it now."
