Scripture Post #598: *HUMBLE MINDED*
Philippians 2:5: "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:"
Disclaimer: The image used for this Scripture Post, in its original form, was from an image search engine. It is not an image of my own.
This Scripture was from Apostle Paul and Timotheus, to the Saints of Philippi, with the Bishops and Deacons (Phil. 1:1).
Note: This image is meant to depict CHRIST's humility, not HIS image. Research suggests CHRIST never looked this way. Mainly focusing on the length of HIS hair (1st Cor. 11:14).
Context:
Phil. 2:5: "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:"
V. 6: "Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:"
V. 7: "But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:"
V. 8: "And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
V. 9: "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:"
V. 10: "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;"
V. 11: "And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
In reading the context we see that letting the mind be in us "which was also in Christ Jesus:" means to be *HUMBLE MINDED*. Letting HIS humble mind be in us. The context explains how JESUS CHRIST, WHO, being in the form of GOD and being equal to GOD, "took upon him the form of a servant" and "humbled himself"! Wow—to step down from majesty as LORD & KING, and onto humility as a meek servant. That's what JESUS did, and wants us to do. To be humble, as HE was humble. To let the humble mind of CHRIST be in us, which was first in HIM.
Verse 9 is powerful, and correlates with Luke 14:11. Because verse 9 states that GOD "highly exalted" JESUS. HE highly exalted JESUS because JESUS first humbled HIMSELF. And those who humble themselves are exalted by GOD.
Luke 14:11: "For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted."
In Phil. 2:5-11, JESUS is described demonstrating Luke 14:11 down to a tee. Let's follow suit. "Let this mind be in you…"
