This Scripture was from Apostle Paul to the Saints of Ephesus (Eph. 1:1).
This Scripture is referring to the secrets kept by sinners.
If you sin without feeling shame afterwards, how would you know your sin was wrong? Where would your sense of morality come from? Our shame is what brings us to CHRIST. The prodigal son was ashamed of himself. His shame is what brought him to repentance. Once he repented, he became alive. Before his repentance, he was dead. King David felt shame after being confronted by GOD's prophet, Nathan. King David's shame brought him to repentance, also.
All secrets aren't bad or wrong. JESUS told people HE'd healed, not to tell anyone WHO'd healed them. A great secret to have kept. Because JESUS wanted to keep a low profile. So by keeping JESUS' secret, those healed by HIM obeyed righteously. JESUS maintained HIS low profile by keeping HIS identity secret. Matt. 16:20: "Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ." But dark secrets are completely different. Because they involve sin. And sin involves shame. Hence *SHAMEFUL SECRETS*. Many people keep secrets, because if others knew, they'd be ashamed. DL (Down Low) men (homosexual men, typically married to wives) keep their homosexual relationships on the "down low", (keep it a secret) because if their wives knew, they'd be ashamed. Secret societies perform shamefully despicable rituals in secret, because if others knew, they'd be ashamed. Children even keep secrets between themselves, because they know that if others were to know of their secrets, they'd be ashamed and in trouble. Many people have been asked to keep shameful secrets. Perhaps, nearly everyone. I know I have. But to me, shameful secrets only attest and confirm that man needs forgiveness from a Holy GOD. A GOD in WHOM is found no shame, no sin, no darkness. Me feeling shame over sin lets me know that there is right and wrong, without me ever being taught it. Small children like toddlers know when they're up to no good. They decipher good and evil all by themselves. Because before they disobey, or act out, they look around to see who's watching. So that they can have their very fist shameful secret of their own. Thank GOD for JESUS, WHO takes our sin and shame away!!!
I don't believe it's necessary to tell your past every time. "For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret." Some secrets I believe, are better left at the Cross. It is a shame to speak of some things. Certain details of secret-sins are better left unengraved into people's minds. Some pictures are better left unpainted in certain stories. Everybody doesn't need to know every single shameful sin you've ever done. There's only ONE WHO needs to be told all your sins. And that is GOD; for the sake of forgiveness! Please, don't get me wrong; some testimonies of past-sins are extremely necessary. People get delivered from testimonies. I'm not knocking the power of testimonies. My meaning is that there are some things that were not only a shame to perform, but are "…a shame even to speak…" (Eph. 5:12).
