Scripture Post #473: *FEAR OF THE LORD*

Luke 12:
4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

JESUS was speaking to HIS Disciples here (Luke 12:1-5).

The *FEAR OF THE LORD* is to hate evil. (Prov. 8:13: "The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.")
You know how folks who *fear* for their lives—whether at gunpoint, or something similar—say things like, "I'll do anything you say; just don't kill me"? People in situations like this will do anything for the one they fear, if their lives are spared. But JESUS said,
"Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him."
So just as you would do anything for the person who has a gun to your head, out of fear to them, do anything and everything GOD says and desires of you, out of *fear* for HIM—having the *FEAR OF THE LORD*! For Hell is worse than natural death—and GOD, unlike man, has the power not only to kill you, but to send you to Hell for eternity. Obey GOD.

Psalm 111:10: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."

Prov. 9:10: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."
