Scripture Post #333: *OPPOSITION*
Luke 1:
59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
60 And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

Notice the *OPPOSITION* here:
Elisabeth (John the Baptist's mother) wanted to name her son, "John" because the Angel of the LORD said to name him "John". (Luke 1:13: "But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.") But her neighbors and cousins wanted the name of the baby boy to be Zacharias after the child's father (verses 58-59). But Elisabeth stuck to what GOD wanted—she stuck to GOD's Word which came forth from HIS Angel and said, "Not so; but he shall be called John." (Verse 60.) After she said this, those close to her still opposed her: Luke 1:61: "And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name." Finally, the child was named "John". And we know him as John the Baptist; not Zacharias the Baptist.
In life, there can be situations where people near and dear to you don't understand you. They feel they know what's best for you, or they know better for you than you do. But if GOD has told you something, if GOD has showed you something, if GOD has given you something, and others are opposed to it, stick to what you know to be true despite the opposition. GOD is top priority; everything else is secondary.
