Scripture Post #145: *MOUTH CLOSE HEART FAR*

Matthew 15:8: "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."

Note: Jesus is talking to/about the Pharisees here (Matt. 15:1-8).

Matt. 15:8 was afore prophesied by Isaiah (Matt. 15:7). Matt. 15:7: "Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
[verse 8:] This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."

I believe Jesus was speaking of obedience in this Scripture. The Pharisees could say they loved God all day with their mouths if they wanted to, but if they didn't keep His commandments in obedience with their hearts, then they didn't really love Him. Proof: John 14:15: "If ye love me, keep my commandments." That's how you show God you love Him! In your obedience to Him, not your empty words. Don't just talk the talk; walk the walk.

Remember, God looks at the heart of man: 1st Sam. 16:7: "…The LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."
