Scripture Post #138: *STUMBLINGBLOCK*

Romans 14:13: "Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way."

Note: This Scripture was from Paul, a servant & Apostle of Christ, to all that were in Rome (Rom. 1:1 & 7).

Understand, this Scripture does not mean for us not to judge anymore. It means not to judge by setting our brother at nought (Rom. 14:10). Which is to judge looking upon our brother like he's wickedly immoral. We don't judge *that* way. We judge but don't judge hypocritically (Matt. 7:1-5). We judge our fellow Christians but leave it to God to judge the world (1 Cor. 5:9-13).

We all should be striving to please God with our lives in obedience to Him. And we shouldn't cause a brother/sister in Christ to fall on our behalf. Like, taking your friend and eating in the smoking section at a restaurant because cigarette smoke doesn't bother you. But your friend used to be addicted to tobacco, has been clean for 10 years and every time he smells cigarette smoke he gets the urge to smoke. Eating there is a stumblingblock for the ex-cigarette smoker. Don't make it easy for folks to stumble into sin: Don't put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in your brother’s way.
